HOMEOPATHY
Why Use Homeopathy?
Homeopathy is practiced around the world, and is continuing to grow in popularity, with an estimated 500 million people worldwide receiving homeopathic treatment . The World Health Organisation has cited homeopathy as one of the systems of traditional medicine that should be integrated worldwide with conventional medicine in order to provide adequate health care.
Public awareness of the dangers of chemicals in the food chain, growing resistance to antibiotics, and concerns about the side effects from conventional drugs is contributing to a considerable re-think about the way we live and how we seek to restore our health.
Homeopathy is a gentle, holistic system of healing, suitable for everyone, young and old, including pregnant women and newborn babies. It focuses on you as an individual, concentrating on treating your specific physical and emotional symptoms by utilising natural substances in minute doses, with the absence of harmful side effects to give long lasting benefits. This is growing in popularity because homeopathy:
works in harmony with your body's own healing powers to bring health and well-being
treats patients as individuals , not as a collection of disease labels
focuses on the whole person by using a holistic approach to recover the equilibrium between the
physical, emotional and mind aspects of the individual
views symptoms as being a sign of an underlying disorder or condition
is a safe treatment for all age groups , including pregnant women and newborn babies
uses specially- tailored prescriptions , individually chosen for your needs
utilises remedies that are safe , easy to take and pleasant to taste
uses tried and tested remedies that are non-addictive and non-toxic
works on the principle that 'like treats like' ; an illness is treated with a medicine, which would produce
similar symptoms in a healthy person
uses active ingredients that are given in highly diluted form to avoid toxicity (Homeopathic remedies
are virtually 100% safe)
is successful in treating a wide range of conditions , often after conventional medicine has failed
is based on in-depth, relaxed consultations , usually taking place at monthly intervals
prescribing is based on all aspects of a patient's condition ; the patient's personality and lifestyle are
important
integrates well with conventional medicine
History
The founding father of homeopathy
Over 200 years ago, the German doctor and chemist Samuel Hahnemann developed the system of medicine we now call homeopathy. He had a very clear and humane approach to the practice of medicine:
| |
"The highest ideal of cure is rapid, gentle and permanent restoration of health, or removal and annihilation of the disease in its whole extent, in the shortest, most reliable and most harmless way, on easily comprehensible principles." |
(Samuel Hahnemann, Organon of Medicine) |
He discovered a new approach to the cure of the sick using a way of ' similars ' rather than the way of ' opposites ', which is the approach of conventional medicine. The way of opposites would treat sleeplessness with drugs that induce artificial sleep. Sometimes these drugs cause side effects and addiction. The way of similars , the homeopathic way , would use a minute dose of a substance, such as coffee, which in large doses causes sleeplessness in a healthy person, to enable the patient to sleep naturally. The homeopathic remedy does not cause side effects and is non-addictive.
Individuals are unique and the way that person experiences an illness is unique to them. For example, if two people are suffering with a migraine it is not necessarily the case that both experience the same symptoms.
Homeopathy has a long history in the UK , which pre-dates the NHS; there are now several NHS homeopathic hospitals in the UK . Although the approach of the doctor homeopaths who work there can be different to our own in-depth holistic approach. GPs are increasingly referring patients with hard-to-treat ailments to homeopaths.
Homeopathy has many high profile enthusiasts, including several generations of the royal family, actors and other celebrities. This also includes vets in treatment of pets, farm animals and valuable racehorses, where the improvements are entirely natural.
